Who is Candice Monique?

Originally from Adelaide, South Australia, Candice Monique is a talented and unique vocalist/ songwriter/poet whose individual vocal and lyrical style fuses soul, nu-soul, jazz, r'n'b, funk, blues, folk, acoustic, hip-hop and spoken word. It is this distinctive style along with her stage presence and artistic depth that makes her one of Australia's most exciting and original new artists. After recording her first Demo in Atlanta with producer Professor Griff (Public Enemy) in 2003 and recording in Harlem, NYC in 2005 with Neo-Soul Producer Rich Medina (Jill Scott, Vassy), Candice Monique has made Melbourne home and is playing on the local scene with her stunning five piece live band. The core band consists of guitarist Mike Chan (Phrase, Jammination, Christian Alexanda, Nick Thayer), Drummer Ivan 'Choi' Khatchoyan (Tru Live, Beat Science, Cookin' on 3 Burners), Bassist Lucas Taranto (Mia Dyson, René Geyer, Josh Owen) and Backing Vocalist Lady Nadee (Diafrix, Weapon X & Ken Hell). The band is added to by guest appearances from keyboardists, percussionists and brass musicans. With influences such as The Roots, Me'shell Ndegeocello, Jill Scott, India Arie, Luaren Hill and Erykah Badu, Candice Monique and her band are at the forefront of NuSoul in Australia. They have performed at various Venues around Melbourne including supporting Rahsaan Patterson at the Prince in Feb 06, the Melbourne Afrobeats Fest, the Knox Fest, Veludo, Revolver, Cape live, The Evelyn Hotel, The Laundry and are currently recording their debut EP at Biscuit Brown Studios in Melbourne.
