With a sound fusing elements of soul, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, folk, latin, acoustic and spoken word, and stemming from diverse influences, such as The Roots, India Arie and Me’shell Ndegeocello, Candice Monique & The Optics have created a musical niche all of their own. Recorded at Buiscuit Brown studios and Produced/Mixed/Mastered by Ivan Khatchoyan at Basebin studios, their debut album, ‘In My Soul’, flows from party funk and old skool soul to epic ballads and poignant poetry, with a raw, graceful honesty. Featuring beautifully crafted songs that take you on a journey from the depths of your soul to the dance floor and back again, ‘In My Soul’ is sure to propel this remarkable musical outfit to the forefront of nu-soul in Australia.

“I love the poetic passion and positive energy that flows from Candice and her..band….. Her stage presence and voice is truly inspiring. To find such a distinctive singer and songwriter fusing her blend of soul, jazz, folk, blues and poetry in such a lyrical style is a revelation.”
 Pierre Barroni, PBS FM.

Candice Monique & The Optics have supported numerous prominent artists, including Phrase and US soul vocalist Rahsaan Patterson, and have played countless shows around Victoria over the last 3 years, with their live ‘slam poetry’ style improvisational jams earning them an unrivaled reputation.
With a track from the album, ‘Feel the Vibe’, about to be released worldwide on the latest ‘Adrian Gibson Presents… Freestyle Exclusives’ compilation out on Freestyle Records UK, Candice Monique & The Optics are set to make their mark on the Australian and international music scenes.

The launch party on May 9th at Miss Libertine will be a huge event with Candice Monique and the full live band showcasing songs from the album, guest performances from Jess Harlen (winner of the 2007 UMA’s ‘Best Unsigned Artist’ award), soulstress Nadee (Diafrix, Blue King Brown) and the ladies of the Movement Hip-Hop Crew (featuring acclaimed choreographer and hip-hop dancer Nikki Ashby of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’) performing funk styles (including Popping, Locking and Boogaloo) to live Funk music.
